It was a confusing day of government and court actions yesterday, but here’s where we are for today’s spring election:
- The election has not been postponed. Gov. Tony Evers issued an executive order postponing it, but the State Supreme Court overturned that order.
- You can vote in person today.
- If you do, your polling place is probably not where you’re used to. Visit MyVote.Wi.Gov to find out where you’re supposed to go.
- You still need an ID to vote.
- If you’ve already returned an absentee ballot, you’re all set.
- If you’ve gotten an absentee ballot but haven’t returned it yet, you must do so today.
- A federal court earlier had ruled that ballots could be returned until April 13 and would not require a witness signature. However, the United States Supreme Court overturned that ruling and decided ballots must be postmarked by today.
- Many municipalities will allow you to drop your absentee ballot at the municipal clerk’s office and avoid the polls.
- If you requested an absentee ballot but haven’t received it yet, you can vote in person.
- If your municipality uses paper ballots, you can bring your own pen.
- Some municipalities, including Madison, will allow curbside voting so you can vote without leaving your car.
- If you vote in person, observe good distancing — stay at least six feet from other people and minimize contact.
