Korbey White, director of Improve Your Tomorrow-Wisconsin, talks to students at Verona High School.

Improve Your Tomorrow-Wisconsin will host a showcase next week at Capital High School to show the community and district leaders a firsthand look at how the organization has impacted students.

Improve Your Tomorrow is a Sacramento-based nonprofit centered on advancing opportunities for students of color to attend college and university through mentorship. Wisconsin, the most recent addition to Improve Your Tomorrow’s communities it serves, has been around since late last year. Improvise Your Tomorrow-Wisconsin is currently in Madison Metropolitan Schools and, most recently, Verona Area School District.

The showcase looks to bring light to how the Wisconsin branch has enabled students to succeed in middle and high school and beyond.

“Any school leaders from any of the schools in Dane County that we send an invitation to have an opportunity to witness our workshop, one-on-one, right there in real time with the brothers, to get a glimpse of what Improve Your Tomorrow does — our magic and secret sauce,” said Korbey White, director of Improve Your Tomorrow-Wisconsin.

The organization has been making a solid impact in schools through its programming. It, after starting in Madison, expanded to Verona soon after continued interest.

Improve Your Tomorrow hopes to open its doors to continue its presence in schools across Dane County and is in discussions with Milwaukee Public Schools.

At the showcase, attendees will get a chance to speak with the students involved and see how programming unfolds.

“We want anyone who attends, especially those potentially interested sites that don’t participate in the program, who are wondering what this thing called Improve Your Tomorrow is about,” White said.

Programming at Verona and Madison includes lunch periods and after-school programs, a class students at MMSD can add to their schedules, trips to colleges, mentorship and more.

White hopes attendees will understand the brotherhood and family that Improve Your Tomorrow has helped create, which makes them want to engage and participate scholastically, he said.

By having the showcase, Improve Your Tomorrow intends to stoke the interest of other schools and districts in exploring programming.

Improve Your Tomorrow-Wisconsin’s showcase will be held at Capital High School, 3802 Regent St., on Wednesday, March 11, starting at 9:30 a.m. It is free to attend; registration is required.
