Last Sunday, Kenosha Police Department officer Rusten Sheskey fired seven shots at the back of Jacob Blake, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down. Protests erupted in Kenosha and Madison.

 

During protests in Kenosha, a vigilante allegedly shot and killed two, and wounded another. Seventeen-year-old Kyle Rittenhouse was arrested in Illinois and charged with intentional homicide, among other charges.

 

The Milwaukee Bucks went on strike for game five of their playoff series, demanding action on police violence.

 

 

 

Civil Rights leader Jesse Jackson visited Kenosha to condemn the police shooting.

 

 

 

Governor Tony Evers called for a special legislative session to address police reform.

 

 

 

In other news, Evers appointed Nia Trammel and David Conway to the Dane County Circuit Court.

 

 

Shiva Bidar became UW Health’s first-ever Vice President of diversity, equity and inclusion.

 

In a new book, Lakesha Collins tells her story of succeeding “against all odds” and hopes to inspire others to do the same.
