Charles Myadze has defeated incumbent Rebecca Kemble to represent Madison’s North Side on the Common Council.
During the campaign, the political newcomer touted his experience as a union member and labor organizer.
“The people of District 18 have spoken and they voted for new, positive, common sense leadership on the City Council,” Myadze said in a statement posted to his campaign Facebook page Tuesday night. “It is hard to believe that a union worker, the son of an immigrant, a single father of three is now also a member of Madison’s City Council. My commitment to each and every person in this District is to be your voice in City Government and to work together to find solutions to the tough challenges we face.”
Myadze won with just under 55 percent of the vote, with a tally of 1,670 votes to Kemble’s 1,380.
