The Green Bay Packers awarded $1,000 grants to two local youth football programs, the team announced in a release Wednesday.

Madison’s Southside Raiders and Cheerleading, as well as Mad Town Elite Youth Football each received grants from the Packers as part of a statewide effort on the part of the NFL franchise to support youth football.

The Packers Youth Football Matching Grant program is part of Green Bay Packers Give Back, the organization’s all-encompassing community outreach initiative. Packers Give Back includes appearances by players, alumni, coaches and staff, and other charitable efforts.

The Packers awarded grants to 20 youth football programs across the state and the grant money will support equipment purchases, new uniforms and football facility improvements.

The Southside Raiders have been an institution in Madison for more than 50 years. Raiders’ alumni include multiple players who went on to play at UW and the team has provided children of color on Madison’s south side with mentorship and leadership skills development.
