US Representative Mark Pocan, who represents Madison and much of South Central Wisconsin in Congress, has stepped into the local race for school board to endorse Ali Muldrow for Seat 4, the Muldrow campaign announced Monday.
“I have known Ali for years and strongly believe that she understands what it takes to make public schools safer and more engaging for students,” Pocan said in a statement. “Her extensive background in education and tireless advocacy work has prepared her to be an effective member of the MMSD school board who will bring about positive change.”
“I’m thrilled to have Representative Pocan’s support” said Muldrow in a statement. “I have always admired his leadership and he understands, as do I, that our commitment to these kids must be unified across every branch of government. Now more than ever, they need this of us.”
Pocan joins Madison Teachers Inc, Teaching Assisstants Assocation, SCFL, AFL-CIO, Progressive Dane, Adelante, the Green Party, the Capital Times and many other elected officials, education experts, law enforcement and adult and youth community leaders.
Muldrow is the executive director of GSAFE.
Her opponent, conservative blogger and former County Board Supervisor David Blaska, does not list any endorsements on his campaign website.
The election for Madison School Board is Tuesday, April 2.
