Rep. Steve King of Iowa shared a Facebook post over the weekend that says conservative states with “trillions of bullets” would win a fight against more liberal states in an armed conflict.
“Wonder who would win…” the Republican Congressman wrote in a post on Saturday. Attached to the post was a photo depicting Democratic-leaning states engaged in a fight with Republican-leaning states.
“Folks keep talking about another civil war… One side has about 8 trillion bullets, while the other side doesn’t know which bathroom to use,” the photo caption read.
The post theorizing a hypothetical civil war comes at a time when Muslim civil rights leaders have urged political leaders to be more thoughtful in light of the mass shooting targeting two mosques in New Zeland that have killed at least 50 people.
King has openly voiced support for white supremacist ideas in the past and has a history of making anti-Muslim, anti-Semitic, and white nationalist comments. In March 2017, King tweeted, “We can’t restore our civilization with somebody else’s babies.”
