Waukesha South High School is considered “safe and secure” following a shooting inside the school Monday morning.
A student and school resource officer exchanged gunfire, according to our partners at WTMJ 4 in Milawukee.
WTMJ is reporting one student was injured. There is no word on that student’s condition.
The shooting put the high school and a nearby elementary school on lockdown. Students at the high school were dismissed for the day at 11:15 a.m., according to WTMJ.

The Waukesha Police Department tweeted it has a suspect in custody. Police called this an isolated incident and said the high school is safe and secure.
The School District of Waukesha has confirmed shots were fired inside Waukesha South High School, according to CBS 58 in Milwaukee.
The high school is on lockdown as well as an elementary school nearby, CBS 58 reports.
Officers with the Waukesha Police Department are on scene, according to CBS 58.
