According to U.S. Census Bureau data, the percentage of black owner-occupied homes in Milwaukee is at just 7.15 percent, ranking the city third-lowest in the United States.

LendingTree, a Charlotte, North Carolina-based mortgage website, recently took a look at how race impacts homeownership rates in the nation’s 50 largest metropolitan areas in the United States.

Overall, the black homeownership rate is at 41.1 percent, significantly lower than homeownership rate among white Americans is 73.2%, according to the latest Residential Vacancies and Homeownership quarterly report from the U.S. Census Bureau.

The only two metros that were worse than Milwaukee were Memphis and New Orleans, who were ranked first and second, respectively, for the lowest percentage of black homeowners.

The article also mentioned that the median household income for African-American residents in Milwaukee is $28,928.
