MADISON, Wis. — Several schools in Madison were on lockout status Wednesday morning because of a shooting, according to the Madison Metropolitan School District.

Sennett Middle School, East High School, La Follette High School and Nuestro Mundo Community School were affected.

A lockout status is when there is a perceived threat outside of the school, according to district spokesman Tim Lemonds. Wednesday’s lockout was connected to a shooting on Madison’s east side where two people were hurt.

A few of the students and a parent were victims of the shooting, according to Lemonds.

Madison officers believe the shooting was a targeted incident.

Lemonds said after talking with the Madison Police Department district officials felt it was necessary to put the schools on lockout as a precautionary measure.

The lockout was lifted after 30 minutes.
