Spectrum, a suite of advanced communications services offered by Charter Communications, has awarded the Urban League of Greater Madison a $20,000 Spectrum Digital Education grant for its Tech Empowerment and Digital Literacy for Economic Growth projects.

“We’re grateful to Spectrum for its generous grant program to ensure we can continue offering digital education,” said Dr. Ruben Anthony, president and CEO of Urban League of Greater Madison, in a statement. “We understand the importance of technology in this overwhelming digital world. Thanks to the support of Spectrum and others, the Urban League will be able to provide hundreds of hours of structured classroom training on high-demand technology skills for the workplace as well as access to Internet-enabled computers for drop-in, guided job readiness and job search activities to ensure that participants are set up for long-term financial stability.”

Since launching in 2017, Spectrum Digital Education has committed more than $10 million to nonprofits focused on improving digital literacy, workforce development and educational access in unserved and underserved communities across Charter’s 41-state service area, according to a press release from Spectrum.

“Connectivity is the foundation for meaningful learning, professional growth and human connection, and helps to build strong, thriving communities,” said Paul Navin, Area Vice President for Spectrum’s Wisconsin and Minnesota service areas, in a press release. “Spectrum Digital Education supports programs that empower community members to enhance their lives with connectivity, from providing digital literacy training to seniors to connecting students with important resources and tools for their education.”

The Urban League of Greater Madison integrates digital literacy into workforce development and entrepreneurship initiatives and equips participants with technical skills to obtain higher-paying jobs, launch and grow businesses and secure financial stability. The digital education efforts teach community members basic computer skills, advanced software training and online business tools.
