WISC-TV has won three national Edward R. Murrow awards from the Radio Television Digital News Association.
The Murrow awards recognize stations that “demonstrate the excellence that Edward R. Murrow made a standard for the electronic news profession,” according to the RTDNA website.
WISC-TV won 8 regional Murrow awards earlier this year. Those winning entries were judged for the national awards.
The station won national awards for:
1. Overall Excellence. Compilation.
2. Newscast. “No charges in the death of Tony Robinson” May 12, 2015.
3. Feature reporting. “Ashamed to Advocate: A mother’s lesson in love.”
“This is a gigantic honor for our entire team and a true reflection of the work we do every day,” said WISC-TV news director Colin Benedict. “More than any award, we are honored to earn the trust of our community to tell their stories.”
WISC has won just two national Murrow awards in the station’s history. “To win three in one year is outrageous and beyond any expectation,” Benedict said.
“We present the Murrow Awards not only to recognize outstanding journalism, but to inspire radio, television and digital newsrooms across the country,” said RTDNA Executive Director Mike Cavender. “Journalists can learn from each other and push each other to find new and better ways to serve their communities.”
Winners are invited to join the RTDNA at the Edward R. Murrow Awards Gala at Gotham Hall in New York City in October.
