Madison police are investigating the city’s third attempted homicide in five days.

Police were called to the 1900 block of Third Avenue just after 10 p.m. Monday.

Callers say they heard multiple gun shots and a car leaving the area.

As detectives collected evidence, a 24-year-old man was admitted to the hospital with nonlife-threatening gunshot wounds.

Officers made contact with that victim but police have not released any information about a suspect.

The investigation is ongoing.

The last attempted homicide happened Thursday night on the 1700 block of Northport Drive when a 29-year-old man was stabbed.

On Wednesday, a 37-year-old woman was shot multiple times on the 200 block of Rethke Avenue.
