Buffalo Wild Wings Employees Fired for Making Black Customers Move to Appease ‘Racist’ Regular

Multiple employees at a Buffalo Wild Wings in the Chicago suburb of Naperville have been terminated after a large group of black people were allegedly asked to move tables so they wouldn’t annoy a racist regular customer.

Justin Vahl and Marcus Riley said they visited the Buffalo Wild Wings on 75th Street east of Route 59 about 8:30 p.m. Oct. 26 with four other adults and 12 children after a youth basketball tournament to celebrate the birthday of one of the kids, the Chicago Tribune reports.

As employees set up the tables to seat the group, a host asked Vahl about his ethnicity and, according to the Tribune, explained that one of the restaurant’s regular customers seated nearby “doesn’t want black people sitting near him.”

The large group left and ended up eating at another nearby restaurant.

“It’s apparent that this staff knows these two individuals as they were playful with conversation and took their time to make our experience difficult, Vahl’s wife, Mary, said in a Facebook post (below). “In 2019, this type of behavior should not be accepted because of certain views. If you don’t want to sit next to certain people in a public restaurant then you should probably eat dinner in the comfort of your own home.”

Claire Kudlata, Buffalo Wild Wings spokesperson, said in an email that Buffalo Wild Wings has zero-tolerance for discrimination.

“We take this alleged incident very seriously and are conducting a thorough, internal investigation,” Kudlata said in the email. “We’re in direct communication with the guest to understand their account of what happened and to offer our deepest apologies for any unacceptable behavior.”
