Donna Hurd Moreland captured a seat on Common Council’s last night with a victory over Badri Lankella, a computer engineer, for District 7 on Madison’s southwest side. Hurd received 57 percent of the vote to Lankella’s 43 percent.

“I had been thinking about running for a while now. I’m drawn to service,” Hurd Moreland told Madison365 in an interview in February. “Living in Madison since 2002, I’ve volunteered at just about every place possible. If there’s something I can do to impact somebody’s life or impact a community, I want to do it.”

Hurd Moreland serves as the director of administration for Perkins Cole LLP in downtown Madison where she manages the Madison office, supervises all non-attorney staff, maintains positive contact with internal and external clients and is responsible for the fiscal management of the office. She is also the first-ever African-American woman to be elected as Madison’s Rotary Club president.
