A Fitchburg business has helped reach a donation milestone for the Boys & Girls Club of Dane County.

Saris Cycling and the Fortune Family Foundation teamed up to donate $20,000 to the club to help expand its specials-needs fund for children and families in the community. With that donation, $100,000 has been raised for the program so far.

Saris Cycling’s Chris Fortune said the donation will help make sure that the children in Dane County are being cared for.

“With losing our funding from the city, the business role has to step up and make up the difference and make sure that the kids that have the greatest needs are taken care of on a day-to-day basis,” Fortune said.

Tuesday night, the Fitchburg’s Common Council voted to approve what some alders describe as a “compromise” amendment to allow funding in the city’s 2018 budget for a competitive grant program that would distribute funds to local nonprofits.
