On Saturday, January 28, the Freeze for Peace 5K Run/Walk and 10K Run will continue a nine-year tradition of supporting food-related projects in Dane County’s official sister community, the Peace Community of San Jose de Apartado, Colombia.
The Peace Community of San Jose was the first community to declare itself a non-violent resistance community, something totally unusual in a country used to violent resistance. The Peace Community of San Jose´ de Apartado´ was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize by the American Friends Service Committee in 2007. The Colombia Support Network works for peace with justice in Colombia, where over 7 million people have been displaced by violence.
The 5K begins at noon and the 10K at 1 p.m. sharp from the Vilas Park Shelter. The race does not cancel due to the weather.
