While business is booming on the Northside, many Northside residents are still looking for jobs or looking for training to get better jobs. The first step to getting a new job is getting an interview.

In an effort to help Northside residents get that first interview, a series of free job readiness workshops, called Northside Works!, will be held every Thursday from July 12‒Aug. 9. Each workshop is focused on a different part of the job application process: resumes, cover letters, elevator pitches, professional communication and mock interviews.

Workshops will be led by WorkSmart Network staff, and participants will receive personalized attention as they create or update resumes, craft cover letters and prepare for job interviews. The final session will be practice interviews with human resources professionals, who will provide guidance on how to increase your chances of getting an interview and doing well during the interview.

At each session WorkSmart staff will be available to talk about access to educational opportunities for all ages, to provide job search help and share information about employers who are currently hiring.

The workshops will be held as follows:

    • Resume Workshop, July 12, 6‒7:30 pm, Vera Court Neighborhood Center
    • Cover Letter Workshop, July 19, 6‒7:30 pm, Packer Community Learning Center
    • Elevator Pitch Workshop, July 26, 6‒7:30 pm, Northport Community Learning Center
    • Professional Communication Workshop, Aug. 2, 6‒7:30 pm, Kennedy Heights Community Center
    • Mock Interviews with HR professionals, Aug. 9, 6‒7:30 pm, Warner Park Community Recreation Center

Northside Works! is a collaboration of the WorkSmart Network, five Northside community centers and the Northside Planning Council. All sessions are free. To register for the sessions, go to operationfreshstart.org/Northside-Works.
