Men Who Cook 2018 competitors

The Kromrey Middle School cafeteria was packed as The Kappa Psi Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. hosted its 24th annual Men Who Cook scholarship fundraising event on March 11.

“Overall, this event continues to exceed our own expectations and we couldn’t do it without the cooks who bring their ‘A’ game in each category,” AKA’s Kappa Psi Omega chapter President Nichelle Nichols tells Madison365. “We appreciate the support of the community to raise scholarship money for college-bound high school students. We always hear from our attendees how much they enjoy reconnecting with people they haven’t seen in a long time and first-time attendees who really enjoy themselves.

The event featured 21 local men from all walks of life competing in three categories: side dish, main dish and dessert.

The chair of the 24th annual Men Who Cook event was Ernise Williams and the co-chair was Monica Pembroke. The AKAs are still tallying up all of the ticket sales and sponsorship money from the event but it’s safe to say that it was a successful event for raising money for scholarships. The organization gives away seven or eight scholarships to deserving students each year ranging from $500 to $2000.
