Veteran Madison and Milwaukee rapper Romey, a lifelong Milwaukee Bucks fan, will be providing halftime entertainment at an upcoming Milwaukee Bucks game on April 7 performing his new anthem “Fear The Deer (Championship Anthem)” that pays homage to the organization that inspired him.
Romey, whose real name is Jerome Hunt, tells Madison365 that he just heard the news on Monday afternoon.
“My heart dropped. It was just like a dream come true. I actually was just in my kitchen and saw a 414 area code and it was [Bucks in-game entertainment director] Johnny Watson congratulating me on a great song,” Romey says. “It will be a great chance just to commemorate the Bucks and just wrap up the regular season and also celebrate what the team did last season winning the NBA Championship. He thought it would only be fitting that I come in on the last day of the regular season and deliver the ‘Fear The Deer’ record.”
The Thursday, April 7th match-up against the Boston Celtics, which starts at 6:30 p.m., will be fan appreciation night at Fiserv Forum.
“I’m going to be delivering some special that night … I have a couple of things in the works,” Romey says. “People just got to come and see the performance … the City of Milwaukee and the symbolism and everything behind the performance … it’s going to be pretty dope.”
Romey’s profile has been on the rise since he first dropped “Fear The Deer (Championship Anthem)” and was soon highlighted in publications like Forbes, Billboard, HipHopDx, the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel and Madison365, among others.
“I’m really excited about this. It’s going to be fun,” Romey says.
