The Madison Metropolitan Chapter of The Links, Incorporated (Madison Links) have announced the recipients of its 9th Annual Scholarship and Community Recognition awards, which will be celebrated at a Jazz Brunch on Saturday, Nov. 10, at Crowne Plaza Hotel on Madison’s east side.

“Each year we look forward to offering this event of appreciation and gratitude to honor individuals and organizations whose commitment to and endeavors in the community align with the core values of our program facets,” said Julia Holman, President of Madison Links, in a statement.

The Madison Links are a civic group that has existed in Madison since 1985. Internationally, the flagship non-profit, The Links, Incorporated, is comprised of about 15,000 women of color from all walks of life and age brackets, who share a common and genuine vision of friendship and service.

The Links’ 2018 award recipients, who are being recognized for their contribution to the arts, health and human services, services to youth and impact nationally and internationally, include:

◆Kaleem Caire, founder and CEO of One City Schools, which includes two preschools serving ages 1 through kindergarten and focuses on getting young children ready for school success.
◆ Dr. Tracy M. Downs, a Professor, at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health Department of Urology; Associate Dean of Diversity and Multicultural Affairs; and Faculty Director at the Cancer Health Care Disparities Initiative Group, Carbone Cancer Center.
◆ Dr. Debbie Jones, a fulltime Hospitalist for 28 years and Physician Advisor currently employed by SSM‐Health.
◆ Madison Symphony Orchestra, one of America’s leading regional orchestras, providing Madison and south-central Wisconsin with cultural and educational opportunities to interact with great masterworks and top-tier guest artists from around the world.
◆Madison-area Urban Ministry, an interfaith social justice agency whose mission statement is “Standing with the poor and hurting of Dane County, neighbors working together for social change.”
◆Joseph Parisi, the Dane County Executive, whose priority is to ensure that everyone in our community has access to the opportunity to succeed. He believes investing in people pays big dividends.

“Our Jazz Brunch not only gives us a chance to recognize the change agents and talents in our community, but it also serves as a critical opportunity for our organization to raise scholarship funds for deserving students in Dane County,” noted Corinda Rainey Moore, Chair of the Madison Links Fundraising Committee, in a statement.

Proceeds from the event will help support the Madison Links’ Student Recognition Program, which has recognized over 800 students annually and awarded more than $175,000 in scholarships. Additionally, the Jazz Brunch will feature live jazz music performed by the Kevin Knapp Band and a silent auction for various items, including tickets to Branford Marsalis’ April 2019 show at the Overture Center and an overnight stay at the Crowne Plaza.
