Dr. Shon Barnes, the chief of the Madison Police Department, is one of three finalists that Mayor Brandon Johnson will name Superintendent of the Chicago Police Department, Block Club Chicago reported.
The finalists were nominated by the Community Commission for Public Safety and Accountability.
Barnes, who has been Madison’s police chief since 2021, previously worked in the Chicago Police Department’s Civilian Office of Police Accountability, the oversight agency that investigates serious police misconduct.
The other two finalists are currently high-ranking officers in CPD: Deputy Chief Larry Snelling and Chief of Constitutional Policing & Reform Angel Novalez.
Johnson now has 30 days to name one of the three finalists to the post, or request three more nominees from the board.
Barnes was publicly named one of six semifinalists two weeks ago.
