Madison Public Market will “soft launch” starting tonight at 5 pm, with a grand opening planned for next month.
Nearly 20 years in the making, the market was set for a grand opening last Thursday. Leadership decided to postpone that event in light of the police killing of Corey Ruiz on the east side the day before.
“Our hearts remain with everyone affected by this tragedy,” Madison Public Market CEO Keisha Harrison said in a statement. “There is no perfect way to move forward after moments like these. As a community, we continue to grieve while also recognizing the years of work, sacrifice, and hope that hundreds of people have invested in bringing this Market to life.”
The Madison Public Market will begin operating with limited Opening Season hours, tonight with merchant participation varying as additional businesses continue preparing their permanent spaces.
The Market‘s official Grand Opening celebration will be announced next month, “when the community can come together in a way that feels appropriate and joyful,” according to a press release.
