The St. Vincent de Paul Charitable Pharmacy is expanding its hours to make free prescription medications more accessible to eligible Dane County residents following a comprehensive restructuring of the program over the summer, the organization announced in a press release Tuesday.
Beginning today, the pharmacy will be open Monday, Tuesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The pharmacy is located at the Middlecamp Center for Vincentian Charity at 2033 Fish Hatchery Road, Madison, WI 53713.
Recent staff changes provided an opportunity for the Society of St. Vincent de Paul — Madison to rethink how the pharmacy serves patients, including expanding its hours to improve access to medications and more timely service, according to a press release. The pharmacy added Friday hours, giving patients another opportunity each week to pick up their medications. The hours have also been adjusted to more closely align with the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry, making it easier for neighbors who rely on both programs to access food and medications during the same visit.
The St. Vincent de Paul Charitable Pharmacy opened in 2013 to provide free prescription medications to uninsured adults in Dane County. The pharmacy primarily serves low-income, uninsured patients, including working adults and seniors who are not yet eligible for Medicare. The pharmacy is unique in Wisconsin as a freestanding charitable pharmacy that is not affiliated with any larger healthcare organization. Patients are often referred to the pharmacy following an emergency room visit or by local free clinics.
St. Vincent de Paul Society of Madison said that in 2025 alone, the pharmacy provided medications with a retail value of approximately $1,034,517. Staff served 354 patients and filled 8,917 prescriptions.
The pharmacy is one part of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul — Madison’s network of services, which also includes a food pantry, housing support, microlending, and other programs designed to help neighbors in need. Through its charitable programs and St. Vinny’s Thrift Stores, the organization serves more than 118,000 people in Dane County each year, according to a press release.
