Positive test rate jumps as 71 deaths reported in Wisconsin

The state of Wisconsin reported 71 COVID deaths on Monday — 14 in Waukesha County and 12 in Milwaukee County — and three previously reported fatalities were removed from the data, so the state’s total death toll rose by 68 to 3,806. An additional 75 people have tested positive for COVID but died of other causes. The seven-day daily death average fell to 55.14 while the 14-day average slipped to 49.

Meanwhile the state reported 4,114 new coronavirus cases on just over 9,500 tests, for a daily positive test rate of about 42.9 percent.

Still, the seven-day positive rate for all people tested slipped from 30.7 to 30.5, and the positive rate for all tests rose from 12.8 to 13.1. The number of active cases continued its steady decline and is now just over 57,800 — about 13.8 percent of the 418,378 total cases the state has confirmed to date.

The seven-day average of new cases per day rose slightly 3,893 to 3,837.
