Positive test rate remains above nine percent, six more die

The rate of coronavirus tests returning positive remained steady at 9.35 percent — up just slightly from 9.2 percent on Friday — as just over 8,750 tests returned 819 positive results, according to Wisconsin state and county public data. The 843 new cases bring the total case count for Wisconsin to 74,800. Of those, just under 7,600 are considered active.

Additionally, six fatalities were reported Saturday — four in Milwaukee County and one each in Manitowoc and Waukesha Counties — bringing the state’s total death toll to 1,119. Eighteen people who tested positive for coronavirus infection have died of other causes, and are not counted as covid fatalities.

Today’s data brings the seven-day average of new cases to 684 and the 14-day average of new cases to 697. Over the past seven days, the percentage of positive tests has averaged 8.38 percent, and 8.1 percent over the past 14 days.

Wisconsin has averaged five deaths per day over the past week and six over the past two weeks, for a total of 80 in the past 14 days.

The highest local new case count came in Milwaukee County, with 136 new cases and 8.7 percent of tests coming back positive.

Outagamie County: 58 new cases, 21.4 percent positive tests
Portage County: 18 new cases, 15.8 percent positive tests
Racine County: 28 new cases, 4.4 percent positive tests
Rock County: 26 new cases, 12.44 percent positive tests
St Croix County: 10 new cases, 10.75 percent positive tests
Walworth County: 16 new cases, 14.3 percent positive tests
Washington County: 30 new cases, 8.6 percent positive tests
Waukesha County: 50 new cases, 12.7 percent positive tests
Winnebago County: 32 new cases, 22.7 percent positive tests
Wood County: 10 new cases, 9.5 percent positive tests

Hospitalizations fell sharply to 268 currently hospitalized at the time of this reporting with COVID 19, 41 fewer than Friday and 65 fewer than a week ago. Of those, 90 are in ICUs, 13 fewer than Friday.
