Positive test rates rise in Wisconsin, 73 deaths reported

The state of Wisconsin reported 73 COVID deaths on Tuesday, and one previously reported in St. Croix County was removed from the data, so the total death toll rose by 72 to 4,783. An additional 102 people have tested positive for COVID but died of other causes. With lower numbers of death certificates being processed over the holiday weekend, the seven-day average of reported deaths had fallen to 42 by Monday, but on Tuesday jumped to 51.14.

The state also reported just over 6,000 new coronavirus tests on Monday, of which 2,384 were positive, for a positive test rate of 39.6 percent.

The seven-day positive rate for all people jumped from 24.6 to 25.4 percent and the positive rate for all tests increased from 8.2 to 8.9 percent. The number of active cases held at just under 29,000 — about six percent of the 474,503 total cases the state has confirmed to date.

The seven-day average of new cases per day fell slightly to 2,254.

The number of people currently hospitalized due to COVID in Wisconsin fell to 1,082, 31 fewer than Monday. However the number of patients in intensive care units rose by 12 to 249.
