In a statement, police said the suspect, described by witnesses as a white male in his 20s or 30s, had already left the scene before police arrived at around 3 pm. He is still at large.

Anyone seeking to be reunited with those who were at Mayfair Mall during the shooting are asked to proceed to the reunification area, which is located at the At Home store, 3201 N. Mayfair Rd.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Multiple media outlets are reporting a heavy police presence at Mayfair Mall in Wauwatosa in response to an active shooter.

Reports via social media and emergency radio traffic indicate “many” people may have been shot, but there is no official word on a number of injuries or fatalities.

The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office said on Twitter it was not responding to the scene. That office typically responds to an incident if there are fatalities.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that commanders at the scene asked the mall to announce that people in the building should shelter in place.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
