MADISON, Wis. – The tradition of welcoming new faculty of color and honoring newly-promoted faculty of color will continue on Tuesday, Sept. 24, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Memorial Union’s Tripp Commons, 800 Langdon Street. The campus community and public are invited to this free event.

The Annual Faculty of Color Reception is an opportunity to welcome new faculty of color, honor newly-promoted faculty of color, recognize visiting faculty of color, and network with colleagues. UW-Madison Chancellor Rebecca Blank will welcome more than 60 newly-hired faculty and recognize more than two dozen who were recently promoted. The deans of the university’s schools and colleges also will be in attendance.

“We’re encouraging faculty honorees to bring a mentor or valued colleague to this reception, as well as encourage their peers to come meet and network with faculty from other areas of campus they may not otherwise get to interact with on a regular basis,” said Patrick J. Sims, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Diversity & Inclusion. He added that this and other celebrations of diversity do not happen in isolation.

“We’re reinforcing a sense of collegiality and community in spite of the size of our campus, particularly our faculty of color,” Sims said. “This is just one of the ways that my office partners with Deans across campus to acknowledge the vibrant and diverse campus community we are trying to build.”
