Yee Leng Xiong

Yee Leng Xiong, a Marathon County supervisor, advanced in Tuesday’s Democratic primary for state treasurer and will face incumbent Republican John Leiber, who ran unopposed in his party’s primary, in the November general election.

Xiong received 264,965 votes, or 57.8% of the vote, while A.J. Helmenstine received 192,510 votes, or 42.0%. There were 1,283 write-in votes.

The Wisconsin State Treasurer oversees the state’s financial assets and supervises management of public funds.

If elected in November, Xiong would be the first Hmong American elected to statewide office in the United States.
