A federal appeals court upheld a ruling today blocking the Trump administration from ending the Obama-era program that protects young undocumented immigrants who came to the United States as children from being deported.

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals kept in place a preliminary injunction blocking Trump’s decision to phase out the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. DACA allows roughly 700,000 undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as children to obtain work permits and protects them from deportation.

“We conclude that plaintiffs are likely to succeed on their claim that the rescission of DACA – at least as justified on this record – is arbitrary, capricious, or otherwise not in accordance with law,” the court ruled.
