Dane County confirms 251 new coronavirus cases as hospitalizations grow

Dane county reported 251 new coronavirus cases this morning, bringing the cumulative total to 27,374 cases. The number of recovered cases is at 23,353 as active cases rose slightly to 4,943 or 18.1 percent of all cases. Total cases have grown 71.2 percent over the past 30 days.

Today, the number of people currently hospitalized in Dane County — both Dane County residents and people from neighboring counties — has grown from yesterday’s 158 to 169 or 11 total. Of those 169 total hospitalizations, 41 are currently in the ICU.

For Dane County residents, the number of people ever hospitalized for COVID-19 has increased by four as one person in their 60s was removed from the data this morning. One person in their 20s, 40s, 80s and 90s were all hospitalized for COVID-19. One of those hospitalized was Black and two were women.

The number of hospitalizations for residents in the County continues to impact adults 60 and older the most for the past few weeks. Madison365 has graphed that growth from information gathered daily from PHMDC’s data which reflects that the number of hospitalized cases in those in their 90s grew by 31.9 percent while adults in their 70s grew by 21.0 percent with those in their 60s growing about 16.5 percent since November 16.

Hospitalizations also continue to significantly impact our communities of color with those who are Asian grew by 24.1 percent and those who are American Indian growing about 20 percent from two weeks ago. Hospitalizations for those who identify as Hispanic/Latinix in our community have grown 11.0 percent and 7.9 percent for those who are Black in the past two weeks.

Of the 251 new cases reported today, 193 were attributed to November 29 while an additional 46 cases were attributed to November 28, increasing that day’s positive test count to 329. There were also 3 cases on November 27 which brought that total to 131 and 28 for November 26. The rest of the cases were attributed to dates earlier this week. The seven day average of cases is now at 272.3 while our 14 day average is at 334.8 as of November 29.

Age groups between 0- 69 saw double digit growths today with adults in their 20s with the largest growth with 50 or 27.6 percent while adults in their 30s and 50s both grew by 44 new cases, adults in their 40s by 44, those aged 10-19 by 25 and adults in their 60s and children under 0-9 grew by 14. In single digit increases, adults in their 80s grew by nine, adults in their 70s grew by eight and adults in their 90s by five.

Looking at growth over the past two weeks, infection in those older than 90 has grown 29.7 percent since November 16 while children aged 0-9 have grew by 24.7 percent and adults in their 60s by 22.9 percent.

In terms of case growth for the past two weeks for our communities of color, cases among Black people in our county have grown 24.5 percent while Asian people have grown about 23.7 percent. Those who are American Indian have grown by 20.8 percent while those who are Hispanics in our community grew by 21.0 percent since November 16.


The most updated data on positive test percentage for a single day is for November 29 at 8.0 percent while November 28 has grown to 10.2. The positive percentage for November 27 has also been updated to 4.9 while November 26 has adjusted to 8.8 and November 25 is at 5.6. November 12, which holds the record for the highest single percentage of positive, is at 10.5. Madison365 expects that these numbers will be adjusted as more negative and positive tests are fully processed and attributed to the appropriate dates in the coming days. As of November 29, the 7 day percentage of positive for the county is at 6.7 while the 14 day average is at 6.5.
