Dr. Shakkiah Curtis, a strategist, entrepreneur, and tireless advocate for inclusion in tech, is the new CEO of Madison-based STEM education company Maydm.
“I am beyond honored to join the Maydm family as your new CEO. This organization has spent a decade changing the face of STEM for girls and youth of color in grades 6 through 12 — and we are just getting started,” Curtis said in a statement on social media Monday.
Dr. Curtis has spent her career helping people — especially women and underrepresented communities — find their place in tech, according to a press release from Maydm. “As founder of The Pink Hustle, through her work with the Milwaukee Tech Hub Coalition, and as a leader of the 1915 Studios startup accelerator, she’s shown again and again that she shares our belief that every young person deserves a shot at a future in STEM,” Maydm said.
Maydm provides girls and youth of color in grades 6-12 with the skills, experiences, and connections to pursue careers in and change the face of STEM.
Curtis will succeed Dr. Christina Outlay, who has been the CEO since 2022 and helped to grow the organization.
