The resolution, passed unanimously on Tuesday by delegates to the 2019 NAACP national convention in Detroit, says Trump is “unmindful of the high duties of his office,” including the need to “secure harmony and respect for stability within society of the United States.” It states Trump is responsible for inciting hate and hostility.
“Be it finally resolved that Donald John Trump, by causing such harm to the society of the United States, is unfit to be president and warrants impeachment, trial and removal from office,” the resolution concludes.
The resolution specifically supports the motion for impeachment put forward by US Rep. Al Green, which was rejected by the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives.
NAACP President Derrick Johnson celebrated the resolution on Twitter Tuesday.
Today, @NAACP voted to move forward with a resolution to initiate @realDonaldTrump’s impeachment at the 110th #NAACPConvention. Trump’s misconduct is unmistakable and has proven time and time again, that he is unfit to serve as the president of this country. #WhenWeFightWeWin pic.twitter.com/LFg7Z8JDYO

The resolution comes a day after the convention heard from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who has opposed impeachment, and Rep. Rashida Talib, who has said she favors it.
