One of the most popular forms of seminar or speech giving of the last two decades has grown out of the much-loved TEDTalk. A TEDTalk is set up by the TED organization, but TEDx talks have branched out as independently organized events that are loosely guided by the TED Conference. Sun Prairie West student Quinton Maddox took advantage of that open opportunity to bring TEDx to his school today for an event that is set to start at 4:30 pm.

Maddox was one of the most recent CEOs of Tomorrow group who took a trip to Africa last year, and is looking to continue work in building perspectives and creating connections by bringing it to his school with the help of Sun Prairie West staff member Phau Thao. The TEDx event will have four speakers split up by a break in between for refreshments and networking.

Two speakers will be Sun Prairie West students, Shreya Bhargava and Suhani Pandey. Both students are involved in activities such as DECA, National Honor Society, and Forensics. Bhargava will be focusing her talk on how society views failure and how changes can be made to that perspective to better understand and react to failure. Pandey will speak of her non-profit work in Nepal and how a passion for volunteering, social good work, and her culture has led to success.

Eric Piotrowski, who has taught in Sun Prairie for over 20 years, will be discussing his experience in East Timor, how it changed his life, and what it means to bring awareness to genocide. Advising for the school’s Amnesty International Club, Piotrowski’s passion for the topic will surely be seen.

Marcus Porter, a local Madison musician in the genres of rap and R&B, will also be giving a talk in the form of a concert. From performing on stages at the Memorial Union, Capitol Square, and Breese Stevens Field, to working in sound studios at Sun Prairie schools and Phoenix Academy, Porter is bringing his work to the TEDx stage for attendees to see for themselves.

Admission is free, but tickets are necessary for attendance. Sign up for a ticket here
