A Waterloo teacher is on administrative leave after a mother says he dragged her 5-year-old son through a hallway Thursday.

Administrators at Waterloo Elementary School told the student’s mother, Catherine Lee, about the incident Friday and showed her surveillance camera video of what happened, she said.

“He was walked like a dog,” Lee said. “His exact words were, ‘He dragged me.'”

The Waterloo School District released a statement Wednesday, saying it considers the allegation against the teacher to be a “serious matter.”

“The poor choices and actions of one individual is not reflective of the greater good that exists across the entire District,”  Brian Henning, district administrator of the Waterloo School District wrote in a statement. “It is our highest priority to ensure the safety and well-being of every student, every day of the year,”

District officials said they are cooperating with law enforcement on the investigation.

Officials with the Waterloo Police Department told News 3 they have passed the results of the investigation on to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office, who say they are still working on the case.
