Cristiana Carusi has defeated One City Schools founder Kaleem Caire for Seat 4 on the Madison School Board, with 52 percent of the vote.
Caire has long been an advocate for school choice, lobbying for school vouchers in Washington DC and attempting to open a Madison Metropolitan School District charter school especially for African American boys in 2011. His One City Schools is now an independent charter school that will soon expand to serve preschool through sixth grade.
With Carusi’s win, the Madison Metropolitan School District will be entirely made up of women for the first time in history.
